  • Bluesky Keith Smith (@keithsmithnba.bsky.social) · Report ·

For Orlando, it's wait-and-see mode for Jalen Suggs injury. You hope for the best here. If he's out for a while, that means big opportunity for Jase Richardson and even more opportunity for Tristan da Silva. Jamal Cain will play more too, and maybe some Jevon Carter minutes.

  • Podcast Locked On Magic host · Prediction ·

The Magic have an open roster spot. If Suggs's injury is very serious, the host imagines they will try Jevon Carter in the rotation. He also imagines the open spot will be filled sooner rather than later.

Here was Anthony Black (right ankle sprain) getting up some shots alongside Desmond Bane and Paolo Banchero at #Magic shootaround: Later, as the media were exiting the gym, Black was starting to play 3-on-3 with Jevon Carter, Colin Castleton, Alex Morales and some team staffers.

    • The Magic added veteran Jevon Carter, a more dogged defender. The host felt he could be penciled in as backup point guard, but Sweeney's choices have pushed back on that. at 27:22
    • Host prediction: all signs point to Jace Richardson being the backup point guard when the season starts next week. The host still expects Jevon Carter to back up and get minutes at times. at 29:14

  • Podcast Locked On Magic host · Prediction ·

The host says it would not shock him if Jase Richardson played ahead of Jevon Carter. But because he senses the Magic will value defense, he 'kind of think[s]' Carter and Goga Bitadze will be the backup point guard and backup center for much of the year, leaving Richardson and Nikola Vucevic on the bench.
